GlobalGiving, Grapevine, and Philanthropy Together Launch Groundbreaking Initiative to Take Giving Circles Global

April 21, 2025 (Washington, DC) — GlobalGiving, Grapevine, and Philanthropy Together are thrilled to announce the launch of the Giving Circles Go Global project, an ambitious new initiative funded by the Giving Platform Collaborative (GPC) Innovation Fund. This pioneering collaboration aims to expand the reach and impact of giving circles globally, leveraging the power of technology and collective giving to bridge local and international philanthropy.
Giving circles—groups of individuals who pool their donations to support causes they care about—are one of the fastest-growing forms of philanthropy in the United States, having tripled in size in just over a decade. Through this initiative, the partners will make Grapevine’s a user-friendly online experience available to giving circles in the U.K. and will enable U.S. and U.K. giving circles to seamlessly and tax-efficiently connect with vetted, community-led nonprofits in 175+ countries, enabling donors to make a global impact while maintaining a local focus.
Victoria Vrana, CEO of GlobalGiving, shared her enthusiasm:
"We’re thrilled about this transformative collaboration to take giving circles global. This initiative is a game-changer, breaking down barriers to connect donors and nonprofits across borders in ways that weren’t possible before. The demand for safe, seamless, and accessible digital tools to foster these connections has never been greater. By bringing together our unique strengths, we are creating something far more powerful than what any of us could achieve alone. Together, we’re shaping the future of collective giving and empowering communities worldwide."
The collaboration harnesses the unique strengths of each partner:
- GlobalGiving, the world’s largest international fundraising community, will provide its cutting-edge API and international vetting services, enabling giving circles to access a catalog of 6,500 vetted nonprofits worldwide.
- Grapevine, the leading platform for giving circles, will integrate the API into its platform, simplifying the process for giving circles to support global causes.
- Philanthropy Together, a global leader in collective giving, will equip giving circles with tools, training, and resources to expand their impact.
Although giving circles have grown significantly in the U.S., with over 4,000 circles directing more than $3 billion in philanthropic donations over the past five years, there has been no national network supporting this movement in the U.K. This initiative will address that gap, catalyzing the creation of new giving circles and enhancing support for existing ones through Grapevine's platform and Philanthropy Together’s Launchpad training.
Additionally, the project lays the groundwork for transformative technological advancements in philanthropy. Beyond enabling global giving circles, GlobalGiving’s API of nonprofit projects worldwide and Grapevine’s Giving Circle API could be integrated into donor-advised funds (DAFs), private wealth channels, corporate and employee giving platforms, and other philanthropic platforms, further expanding the reach of community-led giving.
Key Objectives of the Initiative Include:
- Enhancing the ability of giving circles to support global nonprofits through an intuitive, secure digital platform.
- Facilitating equitable and impactful international giving by breaking down cross-border barriers.
- Empowering the next generation of giving circles in the U.K., U.S., and beyond, inspiring new communities of givers.
The Giving Platform Collaborative Innovation Fund Project exemplifies the power of collaboration in philanthropy. Together, GlobalGiving, Grapevine, and Philanthropy Together are setting the stage for a more connected, inclusive, and impactful philanthropic future.
