A States Project Giving Circle
About our group
We are a group of concerned progressives, committed to the human rights and quality of life of all people, particularly those who are marginalized and increasingly oppressed. We bring a deep respect for the unique individuality of all people and the simultaneous truth that we are all more essentially human than otherwise.
We formed this giving circle because we know that states write the laws that most directly impact people's lives on a daily basis. Flipping states blue is the only way to preserve our democracy.
Our name is in honor of the 146 people, 123 of whom were women and young girls, mostly immigrants, who died in the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire in New York City in 1911. This tragedy was the result of horrible working conditions and was exponentially intensified by the fact that the doors had been locked by management to prevent employees from leaving or taking breaks.
