How Giving Circles Democratized Funding for Local Nonprofits Through the Close the Gap Campaign

In 2025, Grapevine and Nextdoor Foundation teamed up to help Giving Circles across the country Close the Gap for small, community-rooted nonprofits. Through this partnership, $127,500 in total matching funds was awarded to grassroots organizations endorsed by their local Giving Circles.

The campaign was designed to strengthen nonprofits doing critical work on the ground by providing two types of funding:

  1. Matching Grants (up to $2,000 per Giving Circle)
Eligible nonprofits with annual budgets under $2 million received a matching grant on top of what their nominating Giving Circle raised for them. These organizations received funds that helped close resource gaps and accelerate their impact in the community.
  2. Bonus Impact Grants (5 grants of $10,000 each)
These additional awards recognized nonprofits with exceptional community endorsement, strong alignment with local needs, or significant potential for expanded impact.

Together, these funds strengthened organizations doing essential work in areas like mental health, housing, food security, youth development, education, animal welfare, immigrant and refugee support, environmental stewardship, and more.
