The Allignment Chapter

The Allignment Chapter
Penn Hills, PA

At the Allignment Chapter, we seek to help low income mothers make it through their 30, day month with the basic necessities needed to wash their children, brush their teeth, and properly clean their clothes. In the summer of 2019 a mother drove onto the Homestead Bridge, existed her vehicle and jumped from the bridge to her death while her three children sat in the car and watched in horror. The mother had no support nor help to provide for her children and lost all hope. Our mission is to help single mothers stay aligned with their financial obligations while maintaining an stress-free household by providing them with a bag of household necessities. After conducting a door to door survey in HomeWood Brushton the poorest community in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania we concluded that 82% of the residents where single mothers who did not have the necessities that they needed to take care of a household of three. 10% of mothers used soap to clean their children’s clothing by the 3rd week of the month, 17% had to make a choice about if they wanted to purchase sanitary wipes or hot dogs and bread to feed their children, 5% used paper towels as toilet paper, and 11.7% let their infant and toddler soil their diapers to save the quality of diapers they had left. This survey triggered me and a fellow coupon mom to start the Bags for Moms Drive.
