Why I joined Global Humanitarian Founders (GHF)
As a therapist, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, I am highly motivated to spread the message of hope and positivity to help others on their healing journey of self discovery and self love. I want to meet like minded individuals looking to make incredible changes in our communities across the world. It starts with just one voice finding the right community to really make a difference.
Why I joined Houston Women in Business for Good
Hello! My name is Amber Humphrey. I am CEO, founder, and owner of Open Door Pediatric Therapy in NW Houston. We have been serving our special needs community since 2015 by providing physical, occupational, speech, and feeding therapy for children 0-21 years old with a wide variety of diagnoses. I am also a pediatric occupational therapist who has worked with in the pediatric population since 2011 when I received my Master’s degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio. I have always had a strong passion for helping those in need and strive to improve the lives of children and families in my community. In the early days of the pandemic, insurance companies were not covering tele health therapy services for our disciplines which directly impacted the well being of our patients. I worked with Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher’s office directly to pass legislation that would include OT, PT, ST, and hearing therapy in covered services for tele health among all insurance companies from Medicaid/Medicare to Private Insurance. I knew if I fought hard enough and spoke to the right people, we could continue to serve our patients in a timely and effective manner. Clinics around the country were letting go of staff and closing due to the limitations from those first few months before our legislation passed. I kept the faith that we would prevail and we did. The Department of Health and Human Services announced that all therapies would be retroactively paid for services provided and would be covered until further notice. This is one of my proudest accomplishments because it not only helped my patients at Open Door but patients across the country at every level! I was contacted by Emily Rasmussen to be a part of HWBG recently and I was intrigued about this organization. After learning more, I believe I would be a great fit for this organization due to my strong commitment to serving my community and the special needs community by providing high level, innovative, fun, and successful therapy services to the pediatric population in Northwest Houston. I have a strong desire to make our city, state, and country a better place for our next generation. I yearn to be a part of a movement that helps those in needs and lifts others in meaningful and powerful ways. I believe that my vision, passion for helping others, and mindset for success are a great match with the Houston Women in Business for Good. I look forward to getting know you all more in the near future!
