About our group
The State Fair Giving Circle is a group of concerned citizens who want to make America a better, fairer, freer place. We come together from varied walks of life: we are artists, actors, writers, educators, parents, lawyers, and activists.
Why do we think making a donation to The States Project is the way to go? The States Project has a comprehensive plan to shift the balance of power in U.S. statehouses, the places where some of the most egregious laws are being enacted. Laws aimed at taking away voting rights and a woman’s right to choose. Laws that allow guns to proliferate. Laws that target LGBTQ people, like bathroom bills. Laws that affect our children’s education, censor teachers and ban books. Laws that threaten our democracy by permitting state legislatures to overturn the popular vote after an election. Laws that allow polluters to destroy our natural resources. Laws that keep minimum wages low. All of these laws are enacted in states – not in Washington D.C. We can change this by investing in flipping statehouses, like the GOP has for forty years.
