Markers For Democracy

Markers For Democracy (MFD) is an all-volunteer grassroots activist group committed to strengthening our democracy. What started in September 2018 as two friends writing postcards to Democratic voters across the country, has grown to over 7,000 members who have written hundreds of thousands of postcards for local, state, and federal elections. Since 2020, we have co-hosted almost 1,000 candidates and grassroots leaders from around the country who join us at our multiple weekly Zoom meetings. We also text bank, phone bank, and amplify on social media to support candidates and organizations.

MFD started a giving circle with The States Project* in 2019 to focus additional energy and resources on shifting the balance of power in our nation's all important, but too often overlooked, state legislatures. State legislatures grow the next generation of political leaders; set agendas that become national policies; control access to health care; protect women's reproductive freedom; and impact gun control laws. Most importantly, states control access to the constitutional right to vote, which is at risk from voter suppression, partisan gerrymandering, and election subversion. State races are an effective way to change the direction of our country. What's more, financial contributions go a lot further in state races than federal races.

Markers For Democracy invites you to join our Giving Circle. In 2026, we are returning to Arizona and Pennsylvania to further our goal of strengthening our nation's democracy by strengthening our state democracies.
