About our group
Background information.
Rwenzori Women Initiative for Equality was founded in 2018 by a group of women and girls of different social background with an overall aim of promoting the status of Women and the other marginalized groups of people in the community. After having witnessed how society had become a dangerous and hostile environment for them to live in, these women thought of strategies to address this problem and thus came up with RWIFE.
RWIFE is a Community Based Organization, non-profit, political or religious affiliated, located in Kasese Municipality, Kikonzo ward.
The organization works in collaboration with women, girls, community groups, donors, well-wishers, government and NGOs.
Organization
VISION
We envision a future where every Woman and girl child has the opportunity to achieve their fullest potential to participate and contribute to all life aspects.
MISSION
Fighting for the full participation, empowerment, survival and development of the women and other marginalized populations through protecting their basic human rights.
OBJECTIVES.
To empower vulnerable Women populations who have been marginalized in all economic, social and political spheres through the provision of capacity building, and resource mobilization.
To ensure that resources for initiatives that target women and children are mobilized and effectively utilized.
Lobbying all the other sectors and stakeholders to appreciate and address the concerns of the women and girls.
To create awareness on laws and policies on Domestic violence prevention, succession, inheritance and other human rights issues through public information dissemination and trainings.
To lobby and advocate for the rights of Women, children, youth and other vulnerable groups through media campaigns, seminars, workshops and public meetings.
Carry out research disseminate the findings on issues affecting women and other marginalized groups through networking with other stakeholders in promotion of the basic human rights.
To promote health Education as a means to prevent deadly diseases like HIV/AIDS and other health reproductive problems like cervical cancer, breast cancer and fistulae.
The organization is running campaigns in schools and in the community aimed at creating awareness and preventing violence of all forms against women and girls in the community including but not limited to.
Sexual violence and harassments against pupils and students in schools.
Corporal punishment.
Child labour and neglect.
Girl child school drop out
Early marriages.
Domestic violence in the community.
HIV/AIDS prevention and mitigation
The campaign will contribute to other aspects of the community development to help ensure safety and performance for continued community development.
Why RWIFE?
That if Women and girls are not protected first from any form of violence and discrimination both in community and school interventions; their survival, development and participation in the community becomes so challenging. Violence both at home and in schools affects girls physically and psychologically for it contributes to;
Slow learner motivation in schools.
School dropouts and early marriages.
Future anti social and criminal behavior
Low social self esteem.
Violence also causes irreparable damages on girl child’s personality and thus prevents them from achieving their full potential. Perpetrators of violence violate the women and children rights as guaranteed in the 1995 constitution of Uganda and other human rights instruments ratified by the government like the Convention of Rights for Persons with Disability (CRPD) .
What is our Role?
We all have roles to play to ensure that our homes, communities and schools are safe places for both women and girls to live in and to fully participate in development.
The Role of
Parents, mothers, teachers, pupils, students, community leaders, administrators, and the media.
We all need to know and understand the issues and situations surrounding girls and women. They are afraid of the community they live in and therefore we have to work with everyone to end this, encourage self esteem, assertiveness, and grit amongst women as well as give them platform to express themselves and speak up on issues affecting them.
Strategies.
Creating awareness.
Lobbying and advocacy.
Networking.
Capacity building.
Principles.
Commitment.
Team work.
Learning.
Transparence and accountability.
Gender sensitive work.
RWIFE’s work is still in the initial stages with no funding, we therefore call upon well wishers, donors for technical skills, material, and financial support because all the work is done by the free will of the members.
