About our group
The mission of the Mac Alumni Giving Circle is to collectively identify, support, and strengthen under-resourced organizations that work in their communities to advance social justice and create a more progressive society.
Each year, the group:
- Pools financial contributions (each person gives an amount that feels right to them)
- Meets at least annually on Zoom to connect, discuss causes, and plan for impact
- Communicates via email and Grapevine to select causes and organizations to support
- Donates pooled resources to one or more local organizations impacting a selected cause
Issues
Our aim is to focus on issues that advance social justice, with a focus on political strength-building and organizing. Although we have, and will again, fund organizations with a more “direct service” bent, the hope is to fund organizations working at the nexus of service and social justice.
Organization Size
We aim to focus on Community-Based Organizations and other small organizations engaging in grassroots work and building power in their communities. While we don’t have a strict size limit for the organizations we support, our intent is to focus on organizations with an overall operating budget of $2M or less.
Participation Levels
- Giving Member: Contribute; no meetings or voting required
- Voting Member: Contribute and vote on causes and organizations to support 1-2 times per year
- Engaged Member: Contribute, vote, nominate, and attend annual giving circle Zoom meetings
- Core Member: Contribute, vote, nominate, meet, and support administration of our group and our giving cycles.
Focus Areas Advocacy & Social Justice, Climate Change & Environment, Community Building, Economic Empowerment, Education, Equity & Equality
