The purpose of this giving circle is to support organizations and initiatives in the Austin, Texas area that are BIPOC-led, LGBTQIA+/queer-led, or otherwise led by folx representative of marginalized communities and/or intersectional identities.
As someone with a pulse on the local nonprofit and community organizing scenes, I often know where funds are needed but have difficulty mobilizing friends to support important work. The intention behind this work is for friends -- new and old -- to commit to supporting local efforts on a monthly basis and to be exposed to new organizers, organizations, and initiatives.
The purpose of this giving circle is NOT to support already well-funded groups and orgs (where well-funded is defined as having a budget $500k+) and also is not to contribute to the nonprofit industrial complex. We seek to empower grassroots groups that are truly doing transformational work dealing with racial justice, environmental justice, educational justice, health justice, equity, and liberation.
When applicable, this giving circle will also support mutual aid efforts as decided by members.
