About our group
Joining Wake Up PA is the most powerful, cost-effective way you can help protect democracy – in Pennsylvania and nationally. We are a States Project giving circle that is raising money collectively to build governing power in our PA House and Senate – a crucial protection for the future of free and fair elections in 2026 and the 2028 presidential race.
*WHAT'S AT STAKE*
State legislatures run elections. The PA House currently has a one-vote Democratic majority. In November, all 203 PA House seats are up for election. If we lose our 102-seat majority, we will lose our voting rights.
Further, half of the fifty seats in the PA Senate are up for election in November, and Democrats are only two seat flips away from achieving a state Senate majority. We are close to achieving “trifecta” power – majorities in both houses plus a Democratic governor – that could pass legislation to help all Pennsylvanians, and ultimately, the country by delivering crucial electoral college votes in 2028.
Governing majorities matter! State legislatures have the power to protect voting rights plus reproductive rights, civil rights for all (especially for women and minorities), marriage rights, the environment, health care, gun safety, roads and bridges, schools, and more.

100% of the money raised by Wake Up PA goes to support state legislative races, and are combined with funds raised by other PA-focused giving circles located throughout the U.S.
Directed by The States Project’s expert political strategists and analysts (fully funded by other sources), donations to Wake Up PA support innovative, data-driven statewide strategies that get proven results, including:
- Door-to-door canvassing by candidates
- Focus groups and media experts
- Retention and support for expert state caucus staff
- Effective messaging and tactics from other states adapted for PA
- Training and mentoring for newly elected lawmakers
- Vote-ready legislation
Your support for Wake Up PA will empower Pennsylvania’s legislative candidates to hear and respond to voters’ highest priorities, message strategically, campaign successfully with expert campaign staff support, and serve constituents effectively from day one.

It is often cheaper to flip an entire state legislative chamber than it is to fund a single competitive congressional campaign. A state house or senate race typically costs less than 3% of a competitive U.S. Senate campaign.
What’s more, voters who are energized to vote for Democratic state legislative candidates almost always also vote for Democrats in the federal races. When you turn out voters at the state level, (depending on the election year) you can get up to seven votes for the price of one: state house, state senate, governor, state judges, US Congress, US Senate and, ultimately, president.

*IMPACT*
2017: The States Project began investing in PA the year it was founded. At that time, Republicans held a 39-seat majority in the state house and an 18-seat majority in the state senate. When new district maps were drawn in 2018, TSP had a fighting chance to work towards change in our state.
2018: Wake Up PA was founded. We have since raised more than a quarter million dollars from 550+ donors: see up-to-date numbers below.
2022: TSP invested 80x the next highest donor in that election cycle and helped Democrats take control of the PA house by that one seat.
2024: When state political giving was drowned out by presidential campaign cash, The States Project gave over 3x more than the next-highest donor in PA – $11.5 million – helping Democrats hold onto our razor thin state house majority, a remarkable achievement during that year’s nationwide red wave.
2026: States Project giving circles currently are raising money for these states (click through for details): Arizona, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. The goal: achieve governing legislative majorities and trifecta power (whenever possible) and disempower Republican super majorities.
