A States Project Giving Circle

The Los Angeles Giving Circle

About our group

State governments are the core of our democracy, the firewall we need to protect everything we hold dear, including voting rights, reproductive rights, civil rights, healthcare, school funding, environmental justice, gun safety, and clean drinking water.

Over the past few years, the importance of state government has become even more clear, which is why our Los Angeles Giving Circle (which is made up of scores of Angelenos and their loved ones who want to make a difference across the country) is proud to support the critical work of The States Project, to build a better future on the state level, where so much is at stake.

This year our Giving Circle is supporting Virginia for the November 2023 election, and any money we raise past our goal for Virginia will be early money for a 2024 state we choose to support.

In the Virginia State Senate, the rightwing is one seat away from the majority. In the House of Delegates, they hold the majority by two seats. If power shifts in the Senate, there would be a new rightwing trifecta in Virginia. We cannot let that happen.

The first thing The States Project did in Virginia this year was to help with a special election on January 10, 2023 in the Virginia Beach Area. Senator Aaron Rouse was elected, and his seat is key to holding the State Senate. Winning this seat early helps to protect the Senate majority and builds momentum ahead of November.

Donate today to be part of the amazing community that makes up the Los Angeles Giving Circle, led by Cindy Chupack, Jennifer Flackett, Jonathan Gottlieb, Jennifer Levin, Mark Levin, Alison Morgan, Marcy Morris, Jamie Rosenblood, and Sarah Timberman (and in loving memory of our fiercely dedicated co-founder, Willie Garson)
