The Los Angeles Giving Circle

Our Los Angeles Giving Circle (which is made up of scores of Angelenos and their loved ones who want to make a difference across the country) is proud to support the critical work of The States Project, to build a better future on the state level.

State governments are the firewall we need to defend against Trump's extreme and harmful policy agenda. They have the power to protect everything we hold dear, including gun safety, reproductive rights, civil rights, LGBTQ rights, voting rights, healthcare, school funding, environmental justice, and clean drinking water.

Each year we have a State Selection Zoom to decide as a group which state or states we want to support.

This year we are supporting Minnesota and Michigan!

In the face of unimaginable cruelty and chaos, Minnesotans have stood up for their neighbors and for democracy, so we want to show that our Los Angeles Giving Circle stands with Minnesota in 2026. The Minnesota House is tied, and the 2024 results that decided the balance of power in the chamber were incredibly close — if just 80 votes had changed across one seat, the majority would have held. The seat that tied the chamber was won by just eight votes. These close margins are an example of how a tiny number of votes could make the difference between deepening governing power in both the House and Senate or losing control of both chambers in 2026.

In Michigan, in 2022 Democrats secured a trifecta (Governor, House, and Senate), making Michigan a key battleground to maintain control and defend against attempts to shift power back to the right. If you scroll down you will see "Michigan 2026."
