About our group
ABOUT US: Motivated by David Pepper's Laboratories of Autocracy, we launched our giving circle in 2022. What we learned from Pepper's book blew our minds! It is our state houses that hold the most power to defend our democracy - not our federal government. To make the most of our donation dollars, we invited like-minded friends and neighbors to join us. We are now 78 strong and growing. We welcome you to join us!
ABOUT THE STATES PROJECT: TSP formed in 2017 to shift the balance of power in state legislatures to democratic majorities. They work to elect and support lawmakers who will pass legislation to improve the lives of every American. Their annual 50-state analysis identifies the tipping point districts in key states where our donation dollars will have the most impact. It is giving circle dollars that fuel this strategy that has successfully flipped the statehouses in MN, MI, ME, VA and PA.

Virginia In 2025 our giving circle supported 13 stellar candidates in highly competitive districts for the VA House of Delegates and all 13 of our candidates won their seats creating a 64 Democratic seat majority for the first time since 1987! This will enable Virginia lawmakers, with the support of Governor elect Spanberger, to pass legislation in VA that will significantly improve the lives of its citizens!
North Carolina: For the 2026 election our giving circle voted to focus on North Carolina where we are supporting 7 democratic candidates. Our goal is to hold onto or build on the single Democratic seat in the State House that we won in 2024 by 114 votes. This seat allows us to block the Rightwing Supermajority in the House so we can protect Democratic Governor Stein's veto. Some of the legislation that this single seat blocked included increasing gun access in public settings, requiring law enforcement to coordinate with ICE, rolling back DEI protections, allowing Duke Energy to pollute waterways and putting strict definitions of sex and gender into public policy. So ALOT is at stake in North Carolina! But as the battleground state that the Democratic party invested in the least in 2024, it swung the least to the right after WI which shows that the more you invest in NC, the more you see democratic movement. North Carolina is like the little choo choo that could - it is bound & determined to chug up that hill and become the true democracy that it can be! It deserves our investment and donations to make this possible!
So to make the smartest, most strategic political donations, please join with us to strengthen democracy in NC by making a generous monthly donation of $10 to $25 or an annual donation of $50, $100 or $250. And from January 12th thru March 20th EVERY DOLLAR YOU DONATE WILL BE DOUBLED!
