Dear Tending to Democracy Supporter:
Last month we sent you a short review of what was accomplished with YOUR contributions in the 2022 mid-term elections. As a reminder, or in case you missed it, here are some highlights:
• We’ve flipped chambers in Michigan, Minnesota and Pennsylvania
• Held ground in Arizona
• Defended vulnerable majorities in Maine and Nevada
• Fought off right-wing supermajorities in Nebraska and North Carolina (protecting Governor Cooper’s veto power in the state)
Yet threats remain so we must ramp up our efforts. In 2023 there are elections in Virginia’s House and Senate. In the State Senate, the right wing is one seat away from the majority. In the House of Delegates, they hold the majority by two seats. If power shifts in the Senate, there will be a new right-wing trifecta in Virginia. We just cannot let that happen.
There has been a push from the right wing in Virginia to limit access to abortions in the state, as well as to remove protections for Virginia’s clean air and water, and to prevent teachers from teaching about Martin Luther King, Jr. These are the stakes.
We ask you to help us continue this fight. Any donation will help. If a smaller donation better suits your budget, perhaps a monthly recurring pledge would work. And just like “many hands make light work,” bringing a friend…or two…to our Tending to Democracy Giving Circle adds up!
