Ubuntu Giving Fund
Through Ubuntu Giving Fund, individuals learn about philanthropic causes, network and make an impact in their communities and beyond. The fund’s approach encourages philanthropic engagement for people who may not have an extensive or structured giving history, while making philanthropy accessible to people at different levels of giving. The ultimate goal of the fund is to foster a lifelong commitment to giving. As fund members, participants work together over the course of a year to identify causes and organizations whose work they would like to support.
The model is a take on the giving circle format where members jointly agree on how the group’s funds will be use to support worthy causes. Twelve members comprise each circle, and each month one member highlights a nonprofit or cause to which all members donate. The minimum giving amount is agreed on beforehand, but folks are encouraged to share causes with others outside the circle and to donate beyond the minimum as possible.

About Us
To date, Ubuntu has operated four online circles with a financial impact of $4225 in its first year and $2171 to date in its 3rd month of operation for the year. We have engaged 41 members across both years, and are ramping up for our first member event in May 2019. Additionally, the model has been adopted by Soca Girls Rock! a nonprofit that leads philanthropic and capacity building campaigns for organizations that support young women in the Caribbean. The ultimate goal of Ubuntu Giving Fund is for individuals and groups to adopt and proliferate the model in order to foster educated and engaged givers for life.
