About our group
The purpose of the group is for supporters to gather, share ideas and give monthly to thINKingDANCE (tD).
thINKingDANCE is a collective of independent writers who produce an online journal about dance in its broadest sense. While newspapers have eliminated many dance critic positions and the amount of coverage, tD has created a unique space to grow, develop and enrich the presence of this broad definition of dance for everyone.
tD’s 30+ dance writers identify as being BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, people with disabilities, parents, scholars, people who have emigrated to the US, teachers, creatives, elders, young-professionals, community organizers, and/or local Philadelphia artists. We proudly name our individual and collective identities as they are the lenses we bring to our dance writing, allowing space for critical thought, active dialogue, and transformative educational opportunities that ask both our internal and external communities to show-up and engage with the work.
thINKingDANCE advances dance writing in Philadelphia, but also nationally and internationally because of its online format. Since 2011, tD has published over 1400 articles. Not only does tD publish a wide array of articles, but it also has begun to host themed forums and workshops as exemplified in Decolonizing Dance Writing: International Exchanges, supported by Critical Minded, an initiative to invest in cultural critics of color cofounded by The Nathan Cummings Foundation and the Ford Foundation.
Your contribution to tD will build the next generation of dance writers as well as support and strengthen the recovery of dance arts, weakened by the on-going pandemic.
Here’s how your monthly giving can make a difference:
$1 shows you care about dance writing in Philadelphia
$5 helps keep the website ticking
$15 pays for one editor’s fee
$50 pays a writer for an article
$80 covers the full cost of one article
$100 funds dance writing programming with guest-educators
$500 covers two-weeks of operations costs
$1000 helps update & redesign our website
All contributions of any size are welcome and appreciated!
