A States Project Giving Circle
About our group
Congratulations, Paint a State Blue community! We raised $75,178 for the 2022 state legislative elections in Pennsylvania; our donations helped to flip the PA House from red to blue. We contributed additional funds after the November election, since a “blue” member of the House had died, and two others had won election to higher office. Those donations contributed to victory in the three special elections in February, 2023 to fill those seats.
We’re not abandoning Pennsylvania, but right now we’re trying to help paint Virginia blue. In the Virginia State Senate, the right wing is two seats away from the majority. In the House of Delegates, the right wing holds the majority by two seats. If power shifts in the Senate, there would be a new right wing trifecta in Virginia, with terrible results for many Virginians. Glenn Youngkin's allies in the right wing are pushing to limit access to abortions in the state, as well as to remove protections for Virginia’s clean air and water, and, amazingly, to prevent teachers from teaching kids in kindergarten through 5th grade about Martin Luther King, Jr.
In 2021, just 400 votes shifting across three seats would have maintained the House majority. And in the newest maps, both parties have a path to the majority. Regaining control of the House is within reach.
The first thing The States Project did in Virginia this year was to help with a special election on January 10, 2023 in the Virginia Beach Area. Senator Aaron Rouse was elected, and his seat is key to holding the State Senate. Winning this seat early helps to protect the Senate majority and builds momentum ahead of November.
I have set a goal that Paint A State Blue will raise $15,000 for TSP's efforts in Virginia during the first half of this year. Harry and I will contribute $2,500 towards this effort. I hope that you will join us and click on the DONATE button below.
