A States Project Giving Circle
About our group
JANUARY 2023 UPDATE!!!
Dear Friends,
Our Giving Circle supported The States Project in their work to win a majority of seats in the PA House in November (102-101)! However, one majority member (Rep. Tony DeLuca) has passed away, and two other members will be resigning their seats to take other positions (Rep. Summer Lee won a seat in Congress and Rep. Austin Davis won the Lt. Governorship — bench building!). This means there will be three upcoming special elections that will determine control of the chamber, and we need to hold these seats. The States Project team is working closely with PA partners to ensure we hold the chamber. If we lose any one of these elections, Republicans will have a majority in Harrisburg.
The special elections will happen in the first quarter of 2023, and anything could happen in special elections where awareness and turnout can be low.
Our Giving Circle is raising Early Money for PA to provide support for candidate selection and timely organization in advance of the the special elections - Our goal is to raise $2000 during the month of January. Please contribute to protect our victories and maintain momentum for the next election cycle!
Thank you!
Please forward this link to others in your lives who might be interested in protecting our Democracy, one state at a time!
Thank you,
Jay Himmelstein and friends
FURTHER BACKGROUND ON THE STATES PROJECT
Meet The States Project! This 4-minute video provides background on the history and strategy of The States Project.
How We Got Here by Daniel Squadron. Daniel is the co-founder and Executive Director of The States Project. This video provides background on the tactics used by the extreme right-wing to control state legislatures and what we can do to level the playing field.
Republican-dominated state legislatures have passed thousands of laws trashing fundamental freedoms and the quality of life, including restricting voting, banning and criminalizing abortion, limiting access to health care, and expanding gun “rights.”
Value: In contrast to the high cost of federal elections, even $10,000 can make the difference between winning and losing a state-level race. The States Project targets purple and red states where relatively modest amounts can break a GOP supermajority or flip a legislative chamber.
