LET'S WORK TOGETHER TO PRESERVE OUR DEMOCRACY.

Like you, we are deeply worried about the future of American democracy, especially the threats posed by Republican-led state legislatures. We can help thwart their attacks and protect democracy by supporting efforts to flip key red and purple state legislatures to BLUE. To this end, we launched the Altered States Giving Circle as part of The States Project, an organization working to shift the balance of power in the states.

We’ve all seen what GOP-dominated states have done in the past few years — passed thousands of laws trashing fundamental freedoms, most visibly involving voter suppression, abortion restrictions, LGBTQ+ rights and safety, public education, freedom of speech … the list goes on.

Last cycle, we focused on Arizona, and because of the work of the States Project and other groups, we held ground there, and voters elected a Democratic governor, secretary of state, and attorney general! Between now and 2024, we are focusing on the off-year legislative elections in Virginia, then pivoting to support Arizona again. With your help, we’ll continue to concentrate on the states where our efforts can have the greatest impact.
